Shadows spread slowly, lethargically closing in, as if reluctant to hand over the day. Near the forest fringe, a curiously curved tree bowed over to an unseen audience. And there, perched on its lowest branch, Erin remained unmoving. She appeared to be part of the tree -clothed in an earthy shade, her shoulders and legs seemingly out of nowhere. An apparition. Her hair was half-braided as if she had forgotten, halfway, that she had been plaiting them. Chapped lips parted in a breathy sigh. She had been idling all day, swimming in the streams in her water form to avoid being seen or disturbed. Curious creatures of the forest had left her alone after realising that her scent held no danger. A foolish notion, her mind whispered traitorously. Nothing was safe. The fiends were just the beginning of everything. The demigod tilted her head sharply when a buzzing feeling filled her. Something's here. She could feel another's presence nearby. Slowly, she curled her upper body round the branch, as if she was stretching across it. She shook her hair, letting wisps of silver gray strands fall haphazardly. Whatever the other wanted, Erin did not care for it. Be it conversation, confrontation or otherwise, she had little interest in being engaged with anyone else. Choosing to leave was an option, but Erin found herself too comfortable to do so. Gaze flitting towards the darkening sky, she was contented to stay silent. |
